Been Handed Down Through Generations

The sangen, or shamisen, is a traditional musical instrument that has been handed down through the generations in Japan. Kanazawa is famous for traditional music and stage performance. It originally developed in the three geisha districts of the city in the feudal days. The neck is made of hard woods such as red sander wood, rosewood and padauk, and the body is made of padauk.
